Fashion, Artists and Jewellery Spotlight: UGLY SHYLA

It is very difficult to place Louisiana Artist Ugly Shyla into one box. On one (severed) hand she’s a Doll Maker – moulding her creations from scratch and painstakingly constructing each piece to perfection – but she’s also an Alt Model, an Upcycled & Original Fashion Designer, has a home open to all creatures in need and has awesome permanently blue hair!

Shyla’s DIY Clothing line – Execution Style Clothing – has graced the pages of Bizarre Magazine and features upcycled modified vintage pieces adorned with her own art prints, excellent-condition vintage clothing and original macabre curio jewellery featuring conjoined twins, Baphomets and broken dolls.

Carrying a Victorian-Mortuary-meets-Slient-Hill theme, Execution Style pieces are exclusively One-of-a-Kind and often feature distressed silkscreen art prints by Shyla such as Death Angels and broken dolls on anything from flouncy, ruffly bridal dresses – modified and styled into ‘Haunting Dresses’- to Army Shirts, Nurse dresses, Pretty Gypsy Shirts and artificially stained ‘Mortuary Aprons’.

Creations are even Cat-Friendly!
Shyla’s Accessory line can be found in her Ugly Art Dolls Etsy Shop, which, along with her Dolls, offers necklaces, handbags and hats featuring curio and unusual sculpted charms and pieces such as doll heads, conjoined twins and religious imagery. Necklaces are made with either fabric or metal and there are gorgeous large stamped statement pieces adorned with skulls and lace proclaiming words such as ‘Terror’ or ‘Eek!’ which shows that if you’re gonna do it Goth, at least do it properly!
Execution Style is perfectly priced and a must-have for Partygoers who don’t follow the crowd, and makes sure that you’ll stand out in a room full of latex-enthusiasts.

Heavily influenced by Rainbows, Punk, Fairies and Japan’s Harijuko girls, Gobbolino offers everything a Punky Pixie needs!  From stretchy ballerina  tops, gorgeous flower fairy hair extensions and handpainted wings – for when yours gets tired of Magical Mischief – to Menswear, kawaii Animal hats and fluro, fuzzy, cute and evil bags.  As well as the new line which features Bear Snood Hoods and 50’s-style Head Scarves, Gobbolino also creates complete One-offs in a variety of sizes – check out their range of loud and snuggly airbrushed Jumpers and Cardigans!

Based in sunny Brighton and established in the late 90’s, Gobbolino was born when 17-year old College Student Kate began selling her customised clothing in Camden’s Electric Ballroom once a week. Teamed up with her artsy Mum, they opened up a Shop in the Stables Market and it soon became clear that Kate wouldn’t need the standard fast-food or bar job to support herself through College. Gobbolino’s popularity soared, and it was only a matter of time before Kate’s creations were fighting with her first-year University schedule and she faced the looming decision to choose between the two.
Kate went with her heart – and it certainly paid off.
Gobbolino creations can be found in many independent boutiques across the globe as far as Germany, Italy and Japan and continues to spread it’s rainbow tendrils- the world has indeed caught Punk Rock Fairy Fever!

SugarDreams Kawaii Gift Shoppe. Knoxville, USA

SugarDreams creates cute gifts for the young and the Young at Heart and her Online jewellery shop is cross between an absolute nostalgia feast for 80’s kids and a Confectionery Shop for Sweet Lolita’s.
The My Little Pony necklaces (I’m also quite fond of the Purple one!) lightens my feelings slightly towards the newer Generation of MLP’s because Back In My Day™, they had big bottoms and were more loved for it!
College Student Christina creates necklaces, charm bracelets, rings and earrings adorned with adorable kawaii accessories – from plush creatures, Vintage [Pre-CGI, kids ;)] Disney Characters and 80’s cartoon favourites to the amazingly realistic Food-themed Jewellery which includes Squishy and yummy cake slices, Mouth-watering Strawberries dipped in Chocolate and Cupcakes adorned with icing and sprinkles as well as Apple Pies, Pancakes and Doughnuts!

Morumoto. Sherwood, USA

Morumoto, Japanese for “Guinea Pig”, creates unique Plushies for small animal lovers and crafts the most life-like small mammals I’ve ever seen, and as a Fellow Guinea Pig Enthusiast, this is very important!

Creating her patterns from scratch, there’s a whole menagerie of different customisable breeds and Piggie features to choose from! Morumoto only uses fabrics that accurately portray the texture and appearance according to the breed of each Piggie – which spans from the popular two-colour short-hair to Rex, the long-haired Sheltie, Albino (with PINK eyes!) and the adorable Abyssinian. Best of all, she can immortalise a past or present adored pet in plush form from pictures and I’m absolutely blown away by her work.

Also frequenting her Online Plush Pet Shop are Mice and Rats – also in different customisable colours and breeds – and there are plans to introduce hamsters, ferrets and chinchillas in the future!

Stardust Designs London, UK

Based in Covent Garden in London, Stardust Designs have been running a craft stall there for over 20 years and their creations are available from the Stall at weekends. Artists John and Nicky design and tie-dye each Piece, and graphics are applied using a time-served and high-quality Silkscreen print which is machine-washable and safe to iron. The range includes Long and Short-sleeved tops, Skirts, Hoodies, Vests, Dresses, T-shirt dresses, Leggings, Dungarees and Bags – with each design available in a multitude of rainbow colours.

The sizes run up to a Men’s 3XL and a Ladies 8 – 26 which sets them apart from the Labels whom, although their Clothing are absolutely lovely,  try and put everything in the infuriating “One-size-fits-all” Box. *cough* JORDASH!

All of the designs available are Original Stardust prints and include Witches, Suns, Stars, Flowers, Unicorns, Fairies and many more!
I love the Purple Sun/Star Dress which would look fantastic with the Metallic Animal Print Boots I got for Christmas 🙂
